KATHMANDU: Maoist Centre Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized the need for unity in order to transform the status of the people in line with the country’s changed political system.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of National Democracy Day today, the former Prime Minister stated that it was a national duty to lay the foundation for a socialism-oriented state through the effective implementation of the Constitution while safeguarding the gains achieved through the people’s struggles.

“Democracy, established through the sacrifices of the Nepali people, has evolved and reached the glorious state of a federal democratic republic,” he remarked, adding, “The achievements we celebrate today are the result of the people’s struggle in 2007 BS, the 2046 BS movement, the people’s war, the historic 2062/63 BS movement, and the efforts of the oppressed classes, castes, regions, genders, and communities fighting for justice.”

Former Prime Minister Dahal expressed his hope that Democracy Day would inspire all to overcome the nation’s challenges and seize new opportunities.

He paid profound tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives for the establishment of democracy and extended his deep respect to all the heroes of the democratic movement.
