KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to take the lead in resolving long-standing issues related to the School Education Bill and the ongoing teachers’ protest, criticizing the government’s apathy despite educators being on the streets for weeks.
In a meeting held Thursday morning at the party’s parliamentary office in Singha Durbar, the Maoist Centre’s parliamentary party agreed to hold talks with other political forces to push for a resolution.
Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey informed that the party is concerned by the government’s continued silence and lack of action on the teachers’ demands. The government has shown little sensitivity toward the teachers’ protest. We will engage with other opposition parties to build momentum for a solution,” Pandey stated following the meeting.
During the session, the party also discussed its strategy for the upcoming session of the Federal Parliament starting Baisakh 12 (April 25), as well as key agendas such as the government’s upcoming policy program and pre-budget discussions.
Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, who led the meeting, instructed lawmakers to play an active and assertive role in Parliament to ensure the passage of critical bills, including those concerning civil service and police reforms.
He emphasized the party’s responsibility to challenge status quo forces and stand with the people. The Maoist Centre has interpreted the recent reshuffling of the Education Minister as a sign of the government’s declining seriousness regarding the teachers’ movement.
In response, the party has decided to intensify its pressure—both inside and outside Parliament—to amplify the voices of agitating teachers.
