KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called for a Central Working Committee meeting, scheduled for Baisakh 17 (April 30) at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa. Chief secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel issued a notice on Tuesday, requesting the attendance of all office bearers, members, and invitees of the committee.

The meeting comes amid growing dissatisfaction within the party regarding the performance of the current coalition government led by CPN-UML. Prominent leaders like Dr. Shekhar Koirala and General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa have openly criticized the government, labeling it sluggish and ineffective.

In the midst of these criticisms, Deuba held talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. Reports suggest that Deuba is strategizing to return as prime minister within the next year through the same coalition framework.

At the same time, the opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) has declared the current government a failure and has signaled support for a new government led by the Nepali Congress.

The upcoming Central Committee meeting is expected to formally assess the performance of the current administration and evaluate the future of the Congress-UML partnership, especially in light of Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent comments hinting at a possible government reshuffle.
