KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has criticized Prime Minister KP Oli, accusing him of failing to provide effective leadership.
Mahat said the coalition government, backed by two major political parties, has fallen short of addressing public concerns and called on the Prime Minister to show greater initiative.
Speaking at a press conference in Ghorahi today, Mahat pointed to the Prime Minister’s lack of coordination and cooperation, particularly in handling the teachers’ movement, the appointment of a new Nepal Rastra Bank governor, and efforts to ensure good governance.
He also held the Prime Minister responsible for delays in appointing a new central bank governor, emphasizing that the Nepali Congress supports selecting a qualified and capable individual to guide the country’s economy.
Mahat further warned that widespread public frustration is growing due to the government’s inability to meet expectations, cautioning political leaders against making empty promises.
In addition, Mahat raised concerns over the misuse of funds belonging to small savers in cooperatives, urging the government to recover the embezzled money and return it to the rightful depositors.
Reflecting on Nepal’s shift to a republic, Mahat asserted that the monarchy was abolished because of the former king’s attempts to concentrate power, and firmly stated that reinstating the monarchy is not an option.
