Nine parliamentary committees to convene today

KATHMANDU: Various committees of the House of Representatives are meeting today, including the Finance Committee; International Relations and Tourism Committee; Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee; and the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee.

Other HoR panels—the Women and Social Committee, Infrastructure Development Committee, Education Committee, and Health and Information Technology Committee—are also holding scheduled meetings.

The National Assembly’s Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee is meeting today, alongside the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, which functions as a joint body of both Houses.

The Finance Committee is set to discuss a proposed amendment to the Bank and Financial Institutions Act, 2073 BS, with the lawmaker who introduced the change.

The International Relations and Tourism Committee will hold consultations on an amendment proposal to the Nepal Air Service Authority Bill, 2081 BS.

The Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee will deliberate on the government’s quota allocation for importing, selling, and distributing subsidized chemical fertilizers to farmers.

The Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee will evaluate its upcoming plans and tackle urgent sectoral issues.

The Infrastructure Development Committee will address several legislative items including the Electricity Bill, 2080 BS; Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill, 2081 BS; and the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Project.

The Education Committee will examine the subcommittee report concerning the much-debated School Education Bill.

The Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee will analyze a draft of its on-site monitoring report during today’s session.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee will engage with the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to discuss individuals recommended for parliamentary hearings.

Today’s committee meetings have been strategically planned to advance major legislative business ahead of the full House meeting scheduled for Monday, July 7.
