KATHMANDU: Resham Chaudhary, the patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) has been arrested. His arrest came just ahead of the anticipated unity with the Janamat Party, scheduled for today (Wednesday).
Chaudhary was apprehended at the Pragya Bhawan (Nepal Academy) in Kathmandu, where he had arrived to participate in the party unity program.
Resham Chaudhary was arrested in accordance with a court order as he still has a remaining sentence to serve related to the Tikapur incident.
The planned unity declaration between the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) and the Janamat Party has been postponed.
Last Thursday, Janamat Party Chair CK Raut claimed that he had received death threats and was warned that Resham Chaudhary would be re-arrested in an attempt to influence the unity process.
