KATHMANDU: The opposition Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has submitted a five-point written proposal to Nepali Congress, urging the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the misuse of visit visas and human trafficking.

This move aims to break the ongoing parliamentary deadlock and ensure a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into allegations involving government officials, travel agencies, manpower companies, diplomatic missions, and organized crime groups.

The proposal calls for full government cooperation with the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in its ongoing corruption probe at Tribhuvan International Airport’s immigration office.

It also demands the establishment of a bipartisan high-level committee within five days to investigate the human trafficking and related crimes connected to visit visas, with oversight from a legislative group including parliamentarians.

Additionally, a working committee is to be formed within one day to define the scope, structure, and authority of the investigation.

The investigation process is expected to be transparent, evidence-based, and coordinated among relevant agencies, focusing on identifying policy weaknesses, dismantling illegal networks, protecting victims, improving inter-agency cooperation, and ensuring political accountability, including decisions on the Home Minister’s resignation.

Finally, the proposal emphasizes maintaining high transparency standards throughout the inquiry and reporting, aiming to restore public trust and strengthen good governance.
