KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said time has come for politicians to evaluate present national affairs judiciously.

Addressing an interaction organized by the Ex-Parliamentarians’ Forum on ‘Current State of Nepal: Challenges and Opportunities’ in the federal capital today, Speaker Ghimire reminded that positive mindset and analyses are imperative to evaluate the present system because misleading narratives were gaining a pace of late.

He urged the politicians to assist the individuals and agencies that make positive analyses of the situation and advocate for proper implementation. “Some elements are rearing their heads against this system. So, proper and positive analysis is required to side line such thoughts and elements,” the Speaker reminded.

“Present system is the most appropriate one, which, however, needs to give a pace to development,” he said, stressing that leaders’ not system’s change is necessary. The Speaker further urged the leaders to ensure stability of government, policies and programmes in the system.

On the occasion, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, said national consensus among political parties is essential to take forward development as per people’s aspiration. He reminded that the present system was achieved after long struggles, so political parties have utmost responsibility to protect and promote this system.

“All sides’ concerted efforts can help minimize the challenges,” Minister Chaurasiya said, adding that anyone acting against democracy should be responded accordingly.

Former Speaker and the outgoing Chairman of the Forum, Taranath Ranabhat, urged all political parties to resolve national problems in unison. “We’re yet to ensure a robust democracy. Political parties should be responsible for it,” he underlined. The event was attended by the Forum’s members, lawmakers and subject experts.
