KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that a probe committee has been formed to study, analyze, and investigate all problems related to visit visas and move forward with both short-term and long-term plans to resolve them.
Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Lekhak informed lawmakers about the committee formed under the coordination of former Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, as decided by the Cabinet meeting.
“We have already initiated some immediate reforms. However, those alone may not be sufficient,” said Minister Lekhak. “The committee has been formed to move ahead after studying, analyzing, and investigating the problems comprehensively, and to address them with short-term and long-term strategies.”
He added that the formation of the committee incorporates all concerns raised within the parliament. Lekhak also expressed the government’s commitment to proceed in accordance with the recommendations submitted by the committee.
“This committee will submit a recommendation report that will help resolve the issues seen in our immigration system as a whole,” he said. “And based on that, I want to express our commitment to act accordingly.”
The Home Minister stated that he himself had proposed the formation of the committee at the Cabinet meeting.
Earlier, on Jestha 30 (June 13), the main opposition CPN (Maoist Centre) had reached a two-point agreement with the ruling side.
It is in line with that agreement that the government formed the probe committee under the coordination of former Chief Secretary Bairagi on Monday.
