DHANUSHA: A clash broke out between the Armed Police Force (APF) and a group of smugglers in Duhabi, Ward No. 2 of Bideha Municipality, located in the border area of Dhanusha district.

The confrontation occurred while the APF attempted to seize smuggled goods.

According to the APF, the incident took place on Thursday evening and resulted in injuries to six security personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinesh Sharma.

The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at a local health facility.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Nirmal Khadka, chief of the Armed Police Force in Dhanusha, stated that the clash erupted suddenly when the smugglers attacked the officers during their effort to confiscate illegally stored goods.

In response to the unexpected assault, the APF fired 12 rounds of tear gas and four rounds of warning shots into the air for self-defense.

SP Khadka explained that the smugglers had attempted to bring the contraband into Nepal from Indian territory.

The clash occurred during the operation to seize those goods. Following the confrontation, the smugglers fled the scene.

Further investigation is underway, and additional security forces have been mobilized to pursue the smugglers and take necessary legal action, SP Khadka added.
