KATHMANDU: The parties protesting the construction of the cable car at Pathibhara have announced an extended protest program.

They stated that since the issue remains unresolved despite recent talks at the joint secretary level with the Government of Nepal, they will intensify their efforts.

The new protest program includes a “Save Mukumlung” march scheduled from February 18 to 20, along with rallies in Phungling Municipality, Kathmandu, Itahari, and Birtamod.

The protestors are demanding the cancellation of the cable car permit and agreement.

The group has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to implement the six-point agreement made on February 4.

They accuse the government of not creating an environment conducive to meaningful negotiations and of showing reluctance to establish a decisive negotiation committee.

According to the talks, both sides had agreed to hold detailed discussions on Sunday.

However, the talks broke down after the government delegation insisted that further discussions would only take place with a minister or a high-level team, as agreed upon earlier.

The protestors had given the government until the evening of Sunday (February 9) to form a ministerial or high-level political negotiation team.

Since the government did not meet their demand, they felt compelled to announce additional protest actions.
