KATHMANDU: A Nepali pilgrim visiting the famous religious site of Muktinath in Mustang has died from altitude sickness.
According to Police Inspector Bishal Adhikari of the District Police Office, 75-year-old Gopiram Gaha from Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2, Syangja, passed away during treatment at Province Hospital in Jomsom.
Inspector Adhikari, who also serves as the information officer, said Gaha was brought to the hospital from Marpha in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-2 after experiencing headaches and discomfort, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Gaha had traveled to Mustang with a group of 23 pilgrims. According to data from the District Police Office Mustang, in the previous year 2081 B.S., eight Indian nationals, two Nepalis, and one American citizen lost their lives due to altitude sickness in the region.
