KATHMANDU: Journalists Dr Harikala Adhikari and Usha Lohani have been conferred with the ‘Sancharika Leading Honour 2080’.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung handed over the awards to both of them on the occasion of the ninth general convention of Sancharika Samuha Nepal today. Sancharika Samuha is the forum of women journalists and communicators.
Similarly, journalist Dhanu Bishwakarma has been honored with the ‘Sancharika Equality Award- 2080′. She received the award for a feature news titled ’16 women die in 17 years due to menstruation in Chhaugoth’ published in Himal Khabar magazine. The award carries a purse of Rs 20,000.
Likewise, Sancharika Samuha has presented the ‘Late Uma Singh Journalism Award 2080’ to journalist Sapana Kumari Karna, who has been doing journalism from Janakpur, Dhanusha. Karna works for Appan TV based in Janakpur. The award carries a purse of Rs 10,000.
Journalist Dolma Sherpa of Indigenous Television and Sarita Tharu of Ratopati.com have been awarded the ‘Sancharika Protsahan Puraskar 2080’. Minister Gurung presented the awards to all of them.
Sancharika Samuha Nepal (SASN) was established in April 1996 with an inspiration from Beijing Platform for Action to take forward the Section ‘J – Women and Media’ of the BPFA in Nepal. Currently, approximately 1,200 women journalists from across the country are affiliated to SASN.
