KATHMANDU: Two people died and one was injured in a motorcycle collision at the Koshi Barrage in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1, Saptari.
According to police, the victims were 19-year-old Asharam Mandal of Rajpur, Shambhunath Municipality-11, and 34-year-old Om Prakash Panjiyar of Bairwa, Kanchanrup Municipality-1.
The accident occurred when a motorcycle (Sa 10 Pa 562) heading from Kankalini Temple to Bhaluwa collided with another motorcycle (Ba 55 Pa 6639) coming from the opposite direction, informed Madhav Prasad Kafle, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Kanchanpur Area Police Office.
Mandal, who was riding the Ba 55 Pa 6639 motorcycle, sustained critical injuries and died during treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj. Similarly, Panjiyar, the rider of the Sa 10 Pa 562 motorcycle, died while undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar.
Meanwhile, Subash Mahato, 30, from Bairwa, Kanchanrup-1, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries to his leg and other body parts. He was treated at Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar, and has since returned home, said DSP Kafle.
Postmortem examinations of both deceased were conducted at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, and their bodies have been handed over to their families. Both motorcycles are in police custody at the Bhardaha Area Police Office for further investigation.
