JUMLA: A woman has died after being struck by lightning in Jumla. The deceased has been identified as approximately 27-year-old Kalpana Singh (Shahi), a resident of Ward No. 8, Tatopani Rural Municipality.
Shahi was struck by lightning at around 3 PM on Thursday afternoon while collecting yarsagumba (a medicinal herb) at Subbakuna Patan in Patiud, located in Ward 8 of Tatopani.
Shahi had only reached the patan (high-altitude pasture) three days ago to collect yarsagumba. Upon receiving information about her death, police were immediately notified and dispatched to the scene.
A police team under the command of Police Sub-Inspector Krishnaraj Rokaya from the Jumla District Police Office has headed to the incident site, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Babu Regmi.
It takes approximately eight to nine hours on foot to reach the Patan from the village due to the remote and rugged terrain.
Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, have also been reported, making travel difficult. About six individuals had traveled to the Patan a few days ago for yarsagumba collection.
