KOLKOTA: ‘Bagging’ has become a national disease at the moment. And Jadavpur University is at the forefront of it. Now the authorities have started strict action.
Former students say that Jadavpur University is open-minded. But the authorities are binding that university within the confines of rules, so the first-year students have raised their voices in protest.
They claim that free movement inside the university is decreasing at night. Based on that complaint, the university’s vice-chancellor’s office was locked in protest. The doors of the hostels are closed after 11 pm. One cannot go from one hostel to another for any necessary work. That is the objection of a section of students. There is no doubt that these hostels of Jadavpur University have become a terror for a section of people in the last few years.
Basically, this panic has spread after the deaths of several students due to barging. Fear has increased among the first-year students. And to alleviate that fear, the authorities have brought several changes to the ‘open-minded’ Jadavpur University. Several rules have been issued. One of them is the ban on free entry after 11 pm. And that has angered a section of students. Incidentally, Jadavpur University got a new Vice-Chancellor last year after going through many conflicts.
