KATHMANDU: Nepal’s national cricket team has been dealt a significant blow as two of its key players, Gulsan Jha and Sompal Kami, have been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC World Cup League 2 fixtures in Scotland, as well as the upcoming T20 International Triangular Series involving the Netherlands.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) spokesperson Chhumbi Lama confirmed that both players were injured during a training session ahead of Nepal’s League 2 match against the Netherlands. Fast bowler Sompal Kami hurt his right hand, while young all-rounder Gulsan Jha sustained a knee injury.

Following medical assessment, team doctors have advised both players to rest and refrain from participating in the upcoming matches to prevent aggravation of their respective injuries.

“The medical team has confirmed that Sompal has sustained a right-hand injury, and Gulsan has a knee issue. They will not be available for the match against the Netherlands and the T20I triangular series,” Lama stated.

Basir Ahmed takes over from Gulsan Jha, while Nandan Yadav replaces Sompal Kami.

This development is a setback for Nepal as the team is trying to consolidate its position in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings. Both Jha and Kami have been instrumental in recent successes—Jha with his impactful batting and medium pace, and Kami with his experience and consistent bowling.

Nepal is currently in Scotland for a crucial set of League 2 matches and a tri-nation T20I series that includes hosts Scotland and the Netherlands.
