Nepal defeated by Hong Kong in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal faced a defeat against Hong Kong in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers.

In the match held at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, Nepal lost to Hong Kong by seven wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Chasing a target of 30 runs set by Nepal, Hong Kong secured the victory with three balls to spare, losing just three wickets. Due to rain, the toss was delayed, and the match was reduced to five overs.

For Hong Kong, Shanzeen Shahzad scored an unbeaten 15, and Mariko Hill contributed 11 runs. In bowling, Nepal’s Kabita Kunwar took two wickets.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Nepal was invited to bat first and managed to score 29 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted overs.

For Nepal, only Samjhana Khadka reached double figures with 10 runs, while other players failed to contribute significantly. Captain Indu Barma managed to score nine runs. For Hong Kong, all three wickets were taken by Alison Siu.

Previously, the match between Nepal and Hong Kong was canceled due to rain. Nepal had also lost its second match against Bahrain by nine wickets, while Hong Kong shared points with Bahrain.

With the win, Hong Kong is at the top of Group ‘C’ with four points from three matches. Nepal, with three points from the same number of games, is in second place.
