KATHMANDU: Nepal has won the title of the ongoing ACC U-16 East Zone Cup cricket tournament in Malaysia.
In the final held on Saturday, Nepal defeated Singapore by 2 wickets to clinch the championship.
Chasing a target of 114 runs set by Singapore, Nepal achieved victory in 28.5 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process.
Joy Thapa played a crucial role for Nepal, remaining unbeaten on 24 runs. Earlier, after winning the toss, Singapore chose to bat first and were bowled out for 113 runs in 40.5 overs.
Rohan Austin top-scored for Singapore with 23 runs off 84 balls, while Rihan Naik contributed 15 runs.
For Nepal, Abhay Yadav and Sushil Bahadur Rawal took 3 wickets each. Shubham Khanal claimed 2 wickets and captain Bipin Prasad Sharma took 1 wicket.
Nepal remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Singapore had already lost to Nepal during the group stage.
In the semifinals, Nepal had defeated host nation Malaysia, while Singapore beat Group B winner Hong Kong to reach the final.
