Thailand Women outplay Nepal to top Asian qualifiers; both secure global qualifier spots

KATHMANDU: The Asian regional qualifier for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has concluded in Thailand, with both host Thailand and Nepal advancing to the global qualifying round.

In the final match of the Super 3 round held on Tuesday, Thailand defeated Nepal by 78 runs. After losing the toss and being invited to bat first, Thailand posted 158 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their allotted overs. Nepal’s top scorer with 24 runs off 33 balls, including one boundary. Rajmati Airee contributed 19 runs with two fours off 25 balls, while Rubina Chhetri added 12 runs. However, no other Nepali batter reached double digits, with five of them failing to score any runs.

For Thailand, opener Nattaya Boochatham played a half-century knock, scoring 50 runs from 42 balls with five boundaries. Coming in at number three, Nannapat Koncharoenkai also scored an unbeaten 50 runs off just 28 balls, hitting eight fours.

The other opener, Aphisara Suwanchaonrathi, made 29 runs. Nepali bowlers Rajmati Airee and Manisha Upadhyay took one wicket each.

Thailand finished first in the tournament, while Nepal secured second place, ensuring both teams a spot in the world-stage qualifiers.

According to the tournament rules, the top two teams from the Super 3 round advance to the global qualifiers for the Women’s T20 World Cup. The global qualifying event will feature 10 teams.
