KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to take on Scotland tonight at 7:45 pm Nepali time in the second match of the ongoing tri-nation T20 International series hosted by Scotland.
Nepal will be aiming for their first victory of the series after suffering a heart-breaking defeat against the Netherlands in a historic match that extended to a third Super Over — the first such occurrence in international cricket history.
The initial 20-over match ended in a tie with both teams scoring 152 runs. The first two Super Overs also finished level, forcing a rare third Super Over to decide the winner. Nepal failed to score any runs in the deciding over, while the Netherlands clinched victory with a six on the very first ball.
Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel top-scored with 48 runs off 35 balls, and opener Kushal Bhurtel added 34. Needing 16 runs in the final over, Nepal staged a remarkable fightback, with Nandan Yadav hitting a boundary off the last ball to tie the scores and force the Super Over.
Netherlands posted 152 for 7 after winning the toss and electing to bat. Teja Nidamanuru scored 35 runs, Vikramjit Singh contributed 30, and Saqib Zulfiqar remained unbeaten on 24. Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane starred with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs, while Nandan Yadav picked up 2 wickets.
The game marked Nepal’s 100th T20 International match. It also saw the T20I debuts of batter Kiran Thagunna and pacer Rupesh Singh.
Scotland enters tonight’s match on the back of a 39-run victory over the Netherlands in the tournament opener. This will be the first T20 International meeting between Nepal and Scotland. The teams last met in an ICC World Cup Qualifier in 2013, where Scotland won by eight wickets.
