Women’s T20 Tri-Series: Nepal loses to Thailand by 5 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal has lost its fourth match of the ongoing women’s T20I series involving Nepal, Netherlands and Thailand in Kathmandu. Nepal has also been eliminated from the title race after losing to Thailand by 5 runs.

Chasing a target of 107 runs set by Thailand at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Nepal could only score 101 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

For Nepal, Kavita Joshi scored the highest score of 24 runs, but it was not enough for the victory. For Thailand, Thipathcha Puthavong took 4 wickets for the loss of 10 runs in 4 overs. Fanita Maya took 2 wickets.

Earlier, Thailand, who won the toss and batted first, scored 106 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. For Thailand, Chanida Suthirang scored 27 not out and Thipathcha Puthavong scored 25 not out. Nanpat Koncharonkai scored 19 runs.

Chanida and Thipathcha played an unbeaten half-century together with 6 wickets lost in 56 overs. For Nepal, Manisha Upadhyaya took 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs. Pooja Mahato and Rachana Chaudhary took 1 wicket each. Rachana took her debut wicket in T20Is for Nepal.

Nepal had lost all the last three matches. Nepal was under pressure to win this match to keep its chances of winning the series alive. Now, even if Nepal wins the remaining two matches, it will not be enough for the title.

This is Thailand’s fourth consecutive win in the series, in which all teams play each other 3-3. With this, Thailand looks strong in the title race.
