KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast that the monsoon will spread throughout Nepal within the next week, following an early onset in the eastern region.
The monsoon entered eastern Nepal approximately 15 days earlier than the average onset date and is expected to cover the entire country soon.
Senior meteorologist Shanti Kandel confirmed that rainfall activity has already increased starting Thursday, with light to heavy rainfall expected in all provinces over the coming days.
“At present, the monsoon system is mainly affecting the eastern region, but it will expand nationwide within a week,” Kandel said.
She further noted that this year’s monsoon season may see higher-than-average maximum and minimum temperatures across Nepal.
The Department has urged the public to stay updated with weather forecasts to better prepare for potential water- and weather-related hazards during the monsoon.
