KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued a weather alert after several parts of Sudurpaschim province experienced moderate to heavy rainfall over the last 1 to 3 hours.

Rainfall monitoring stations at Pashchim Seti and Dipayal in Doti, along with Sahukharka in Dadeldhura, reported substantial precipitation levels, prompting concerns for local communities.

The DHM’s Forecasting Division cautions residents to remain vigilant until this afternoon as sudden flooding may occur in small rivers and streams flowing through the affected areas. There is also a heightened risk of landslides, especially on steep and unstable slopes.

Flash floods are also possible in rivers and streams near Deurali Nawal in Nawalparasi West, Shaktikhor in Chitwan, and Baldyangadhi in Palpa. Authorities are urging heightened awareness in these locations.

The department attributes the current weather pattern to a combination of western and local winds, along with an active monsoonal system over Koshi Province.

Officials advise people, particularly those living in hilly and flood-prone zones, to stay alert and take necessary safety measures as adverse weather continues.
