Honoring Himdamaru title to Basnet

 Balkrishna Basnet, Chairman of Press Council Nepal, has requested that journalism should be focused on the protection of the mountains and the environment as the earth can be saved.

He has also suggested that the relevant bodies should be serious about the fact that due to climate change, the snow in the mountains of Nepal is decreasing and this is causing great damage to the overall tourism.

Literary Journalists Association honored Basnet with the title of Himdamaru on Thursday.

Basnet has been honored by the association as he has been trekking in the Himalayan region for a long time and has done various studies in the field of journalism on protecting the mountains, the environment and the effects of climate change.

 Senior writer Rochak Ghimire, senior actor Madandash Shrestha, Everest climber Tembachiri Sherpa and others honored Chairman Basnet.

Chairman Basnet said that protecting the climate, tourism and environment is a matter of saving the earth.

 Only if the mountains survive, the water will remain, the paradise, the tourism area will remain, foreigners will come to see the mountains. So let's go to save the mountains. Basnet said that prosperity is not only about building roads and buildings, but also about preserving the country's heritage, language, culture, lifestyle, and costumes.

People from all over the world have come to see Nepal, to see lakes, forests and mountains. But as soon as we get off the airport, we start asking. It is a fact that we do not know ourselves. He suggested that this trend should be stopped and that the journalism world should also take this matter seriously.

Basnet has been honored for having studied the Himalayan region through difficult treks, produced a documentary on the impact of climate change on the Himalayan region, and also contributed to the protection of the mountains for 25 years. He has been given the title of Himdamaru in the honor.

 Addressing the program as the chief guest, writer Rochak Ghimire praised Chairman Basnet for working for prosperity for a long time through the field of journalism.

Mount Everest climber Tembachiri Sherpa shared his experience of working together for 24 years about the study and interest of Basnet in the Himalayan region. At the age of 14, when Sherpa first started climbing Everest, journalist Basnet along with the management team went to Everest base camp.

Chairman Basnet, during his journalism, visited the Everest base camp area, Annapurna, Langtang several times, and constantly researched the effects of climate change on various areas.

The chief guest, Rochak Ghimire, said that it was a pleasure to have a person known in investigative journalism as the leader of the council and expressed the opinion that everyone should unite to save literary journalism. Radheshyam Lekali, president of the association, said that the nation will progress only if the language, literature, heritage and culture are preserved, and the attention of journalism should be directed towards them.
