Speaker Devraj Ghimire has urged journalists to play a role in preventing the state bodies from taking any illegal decisions.
Journalists should profess what is right and what is wrong, he said at a programme organised to exchange best wishes here on Saturday by the Nuwakot-Kathmandu Journalists Society.
Saying journalists should make remote people aware and expose difficulties facing poor people in view of the festivals, he said, “Journalists should use their pen to keep people’s representatives alert and play a role in informing people about the nation’s needs, destination, and the purpose of the constitution.”
He also suggested that the government make a plan and allocate a budget to make mass communication channels effective.
Stating that Nuwakot is backward despite being beautiful and in the proximity of Kathmandu, the federal capital of Nepal, he urged local journalists to make the district physically, economically, socially and culturally prosperous, attractive and harmonious by promoting historical, religious and cultural tourism destinations like Gosainkunda in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.
Similarly, lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC urged journalists to contribute to strengthening national unity and preventing economic, social and religious conflicts in the country by increasing the feeling that all festivals of the country are festivals of all Nepali people.
KC, who represents Nuwakot in the House of Representatives, also announced to donate his one month’s salary to the revolving fund to be set up by the Nuwakot-Kathmandu Journalists Society.
The event was attended by people from Nuwakot from all walks of life including from politics, journalism, literature, culture, civil service, industry-business and agriculture living in Kathmandu.
