Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has vowed peace and security in the country.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Wednesday, DPM Shrestha viewed anyone involved in destabilizing peace and security would be brought to book. DPM Shrestha made such a commitment after UML lawmaker Padam Giri drew his attention to an untoward activity conducted against CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli while he was going to Jhapa today.

Shrestha argued although every citizen is free to conduct his/her activity peacefully, he/she is not allowed to involve in illegal activity. The Home Minister also informed that an investigation was going on in the murder of Nira Pande, a utensil shop owner at Kapan, Kathmandu.

NC lawmaker Gagan Thapa and others drew Home Minister's attention to why the investigation failed to bring forth facts on the murder for long.

Similarly, DPM Shrestha shared that the government had expedited activities for the preparation of laws to address plights facing loan sharking victims.

He expressed the belief that the government would bring the bill soon as per the agreement with victims and this problem would be ended forever, adding the Commission formed by the government would forward necessary action, collecting details on every victim.

Mentioning that the source of illegal property of loan sharks and investigation would be carried out as per laws related to Anti-Money Laundering, the Home Minister expressed determination to resolve the problem at any cost.

He emphasized on the need for a forwarding process with social justice and creating an environment where poor and financially weak people could take loans and carry out economic activities easily. Home Minister Shrestha also expressed sorrow over the incident where some agitators were injured after police used force upon loan sharking victims a few days ago.

He underscored that there should be a national consensus on the issue of citizenship, adding the government was committed to completing the remaining task of the peace process; and necessary initiatives were underway in this regard.
