Government awards national women volleyball players, coaches

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has awarded national women volleyball players, coaches and manager participating in the CAVA Women's Volleyball National League.

At a programme organized at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, today, PM Oli distributed prizes to 14 players of the National Women Volleyball Team including captain Aruna Shahi, chief coach Jagadish Prasad Bhatta, assistant coach Bharat Yadav, manager Nilam Singh Bajracharya and physiotherapist Lokendra Kunwar.

Each player received Rs 300,000, while chief coach Bhatta Rs 200,000, assistant coach Yadav, manager Bajracharya and physio Kunwar Rs 120,000 each.

The Nepali team became the first runner-up with best performance in the league held in Kathmandu from August 1-7.

A cabinet meeting held on August 15 had decided to provide total Rs 4.760 million prize to the players, coaches as well as other members of the team.

Expressing happiness over the success of women volleyball players so far, Prime Minister Oli urged the players to put in more efforts in order to set new record in coming days.

"I believe that our player daughters have become excited and motivated for further success and progress. The government will make possible efforts for creating environment conducive to players for regular practice as well as building sports infrastructures," he stressed.

He underlined, "Go with high morale till the end that we will win wherever we go."

Recalling his decision made on the very first day at his office to upgrade the Kirtipur Play Ground within 300 days, the Prime Minister assured of the implementation of the decision. He also called on the stakeholders concerned to make better preparations for the 10th National Games.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudhary, thanked all those who worked tremendously to bring women's volleyball to the present situation. He stressed that the government should reflect its priority on sports in its policies and approaches.

Secretary at the Ministry, Sumanraj Aryal applauded the performance of the Nepali women's volleyball team in the tournament amidst limited resources.

National Sports Council member-secretary Tankalal Ghishing acknowledged the government's initiation to promote the sports sectors.

 Nepal Volleyball Association general secretary Roshan Shrestha expressed his hope that a covered hall will be built as per the commitments of the Prime Minister.

Captain Shahn said the award is an aspiration for the team to do better in the further, promising to leave no stone unturned to promote the country's identity through sports.

Myagde delegation hands charter of demands to PM

Meanwhile, a delegation of youths from the Myagde rural municipality in Tanahu on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Oli, drawing the government's attention to the need to center on development endeavors.

The delegation presented a charter of various demands before the Prime Minister which includes the construction of a cemented bridge over the Seti River to connect Myagde rural municipality-3 to Rhishing rural municipality-7, the establishment of a cultural museum at Myagde-2 and the budget allocation for the play cricket and a landfill site at the ward-2 among others.

In response, the Prime Minister assured the team of the fulfillment of the demands in consultation with line ministers, according to CPN (UML) Myagde village committee's secretary Sandip Ranabhat.
