SOLUKHUMBU: The Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla saw a record number of flights taking place on Thursday. According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal in Lukla, there were 184 flights by helicopters and aircrafts at the airport.
Of them, 152 flights were made by helicopters and 23 by aircraft of different airlines. According to Umesh Panthi, head of the office, the weather improved leading to a significant number of flights to the gateway of Mt Everest.
Tara Air and Summit Air made 12 flights each while Sita Airlines had eight flights.
A total of 532 tourists including 396 foreigners and 136 Nepalis landed in Lukla today by air. Likewise, 462 tourists left Lukla.
"The number of tourists coming to the Everest region is encouraging," said Lamakaji Sherpa, president of the Everest Pollution Control Committee.
