Orange production in Chitwan has declined this year. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center, 837.05 million metric tons of oranges have been produced in the area of 125 hectares. In the last fiscal year, 950 metric tons of oranges were produced in the same area. Last year's production of oranges was 7.6 metric tons per hectare but this year it has dropped to 6.7.
In the last fiscal year, 1,101 metric tons of oranges were produced in the same area in the district. The production of oranges was 8.81 metric tons per hectare that year. The production was 1,150 metric tons.
Min Bahadur Pun, information officer at the knowledge center, said that the productivity was declining due to poor management of the orange orchard and old plants. He informed that the production capacity will also decrease as the orange trees get older. Pun said, "The production of oranges has come down due to improper care of sewage, irrigation, and pruning."
The knowledge center has stated that the orange cultivation can be developed and expanded if the orchard can be restructured..
