The freed Haliya, Kamaiya, Kamlari, and Harwa charwa have demanded to allocate a budget for their rehabilitation.

Submitting a memorandum to the Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation Ranjita Shrestha on Sunday, the representative team of former bonded laborers demanded the allocation of funds in the coming fiscal year's budget for their rehabilitation.

The program coordinator of Mukt Kamaiya Bikas Mancha, Kailali, Indrajit Chaudhary, said that although the government has repeatedly announced the liberation of Kamaiya, Kamlari, Haliya, and Harwa charwa the program for rehabilitation has not been included in the government's policies and programs.

According to him, in the memorandum submitted today, it has been demanded to implement the recommendations made by the study committee on the situation of freed Kamaiya, Kamlari, Haliya, and Harwa Charwa, and introduce procedures related to the rehabilitation of the former bonded laborers.

The memo also calls for a survey of the land that the freed bonded laborers are currently occupying and giving them ownership, and recognizing it as collateral for taking loans.
