In a country suffering from brain drain, worker exploitation and a deeply rooted unemployment problem, the common consensus amongst the affected is that the opportunities in Nepal are meagre. However, amongst these very valid concerns prevalent among the working populace, surfaces Everest Hardware, a beacon of hope and a business the nepalese can look to as hope for the possibility of prospect and advancement within Nepal itself.

Everest Hardware today emerges as one the leading winter clothing outlets not only locally but internationally too. Producing winter wear, jackets and mountaineering gear, the brand has established a niche in the Nepali market and mountaineers opt for Everest hardware gear over other international brands for its affordability, reliability and overall top notch quality.

The brand has gained a lot of exposure in the past and in recent times as well. At a meeting held at kalapathar on the 4th of December, 2009 by the council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal, at a height of 5,242 m the gear and jackets that the ministers wore were exclusively Everest Hardware gear. Along with this, Everest Hardware also supplied the gear for the Nepal Civil Servants climbing team, an all-women climbing team.

Behind the success of this thriving brand is the evergreen yet hardworking persona of Sonam Sherpa. Born in Dukhunda Municipality in Solukhumbu of Nepal, Sonam made the journey to Kathmandu looking for a better future. In Kathmandu he started his winter clothing company with an investment of only Rs 2000 in 1984. “Due to our cheap prices and great quality, the product has managed to break even in the Nepali market, with the trust between us and our customers increasing greatly.” says Sonam Sherpa.

Everest Hardware, besides creating countless employment opportunities locally, also engages in giving back to the very community that made it what it is today. 5 per cent of all the revenue generated from sales is donated to the education of poor children, through this contribution the company has managed to educate around 10 children ranging from Grade 1-10. The company also mass manufactured PPE’s during peak lockdown to meet the steep demand of protective gear for our health workers.

With the aim of expanding a lot more into the international market by opening more production lines and outlets, Everest Hardware is sure to continue and expand its inspirational story and philanthropy to many more regions of Nepal and around the world.
