Exports have increased five percent in the first five months in the current fiscal year, 2020/21 as compared to the previous FY, 2019/20, according to data published by the Department of Customs.
Merchandise exports increased 5.1 percent to Rs.50.06 billion compared to an increase of 27.0 percent in the same period of the previous FY, 2019/20.
Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 8.6 percent and 0.8 percent respectively whereas exports to China decreased 55.2 percent.
Exports of cardamom, jute goods, polyster yarn and threads, noodles, pashmina, among others, increased whereas exports of palm oil, pulses, zinc sheet, woolen carpet, textiles, among others, decreased in the review period.
Meanwhile, merchandise imports decreased 9.6 percent to Rs.525.50 billion in the first five months in the current FY compared to a decrease of 4.2 percent previous FY.
