BANKE: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, stated that the government’s priority is to expand the tax base, rather than raising tax rates.
Speaking at a program organized by the Internal Revenue Office in Nepalgunj today in observance of National Tax Day and Tax Week, Minister Bhandari outlined the government's efforts to broaden the tax net and enhance the tax system.
"A strong state ensures the growth of robust industries and businesses. Therefore, revenue collection must exceed targets to strengthen the state," he said. "No one is exempt from their obligation to contribute to revenue collection."
Minister Bhandari also emphasized the need for greater cooperation between industrialists, government officials, and law enforcement agencies to combat revenue evasion, particularly in regions affected by open borders.
He assured the business community that the government is committed to addressing the challenges they face.
The event, chaired by Chief Tax Officer Purna Prasad Neupane, also featured remarks from Member of Parliament Deepa Sharma and Chief District Officer of Banke, Khagendra Prasad Rijal. They underscored that there will be no tolerance for revenue mismanagement.
