Hyundai introduces Bayon Crossover-SUV

Hyundai Motor has unveiled the all-new Hyundai Bayon, a crossover SUV.

Hyundai Motor on Tuesday unveiled the all-new Hyundai Bayon, a crossover SUV. The Hyundai Bayon is positioned above the Hyundai Venue and below the Hyundai Creta in the global portfolio. 

Hyundai Bayon underpins the same platform as the current-gen Hyundai i20 and borrows a few design cues from its sibling too. Bayon takes on the likes of Renault Captur, Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Juke and Volkswagen T-Cross. 

Hyundai Bayon, for now, is a Europe-exclusive offering it clearly reflects in its nomenclature too. Hyundai Bayon is named after Bayonne, the capital of the French Basque Country and this strategy behind the naming was meant to attract European customers.

Bayon boasts a very sharp and distinctive design and is adopts Hyundai’s latest Sensuous Sportiness design language. The SUV gets a wide front grille that opens up at the bottom, giving it a bold stance. The sporty air intakes, wide and sleek DRLs and the skid plate give the Bayon an aggressive look of sorts. Bayon features a very unique dynamic shoulder line which gives the SUV a wedge-shaped appearance. The arrow-shaped C-pillar accentuates the side profile of the Bayon.

Hyundai Bayon features a quite bold rear profile too with arrow-shaped lights and their far-out position gives a wide stance to the SUV too. Bayon is available with 15-inch steel or 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels. The SUV will be offered in 9 colour schemes in total and a few trims offer a dual-tone scheme with a phantom black roof.

On the inside, the Bayon sports features like a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, 8-inch display audio and 10.25-inch instrument cluster, Bose premium sound system, a wireless charging pod and 3 USB ports. The SUV also gets the latest version of Hyundai Bluelink connected features and ambient lighting. There are three colour schemes offered inside to help customers personalize their in-cabin experience.

The Hyundai Bayon is offered with 3 engines in total 1.2-litre MPi petrol and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (100 PS) and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120 PS). While the 1.2-litre petrol engine offers 84 PS of power and 117 Nm of torque, the 100 PS 1.0-litre turbo petrol is offered in a standard version or paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system and the 120 PS 1.0-litre turbo petrol mill is available with a 48V mild-hybrid system alone. The transmission duties are shouldered by a 5-MT, 6-MT, 7-DCT, or a 6-iMT.

The Hyundai Bayon comes with a comprehensive safety package that includes features like lane following assist, forward collision-avoidance assist, navigation -based smart cruise control, driver attention warning, leading vehicle departure alert, rear occupant alert and much more.
