In memory of the Late Ang Tshering Sherpa

Three years have passed since the passing of one of Nepal’s foremost entrepreneurs; the Late Ang Tshering Sherpa. On February 27, 2019 the nation was hit with the news of Sherpa along with six others’ demise in a helicopter crash in Taplejung.

His demise is still felt in the nation’s tourism sector, especially in the field of civil aviation. Known for his determination and drive, Sherpa, one of the founders of Nepal's leading private airlines, Yeti Airlines, Tara Air, and Himalaya Airlines, a private international airline of Nepal has managed to establish itself in a short period of time.

Sherpa was determined to develop the country's economy through the tourism sector.

Sherpa is considered a 'pioneer' in the tourism business. He has also contributed majorly to the aviation business as well as hotels, travel and resorts. Due to which thousands of people are getting employment.

The contribution of Sherpa to the country was to succeed in elevating the Nepali tourism sector to a position of pride. He was instrumental in bringing new ideas to Nepal's tourism and successfully implementing them.

Ang Tshering Sherpa also made a huge contribution in the field of sports. He had contributed to the development of swimming as an official of the Nepal Swimming Association. He was associated with the golf scene in Nepal for three decades. Golfers and coaches in Nepal remember him as a person who loved sport dearly.

 He started playing golf at the Royal Nepal Golf Club.

Although he later owned his own golf course at Gokarna, he did not stop going to the golf club in Tilganga to play with his group. The players there are reminded of the role he played in extending the lease period of the golf club. He was always available to help amateurs and professional level players as well as coaches. Many golfers remember him for his personal help.

He helped the players a lot by giving member fees, clubs and other sports equipment as well as providing for many under privileged. No matter how old he was, he was eager to learn from the coaches. He encouraged the players by holding many competitions at his own golf course. .

The second Ang Tshering Sherpa Memorial Golf Tournament is being organized at Gokarna Golf Course this week in memory of the late Ang Tshring Sherpa and to celebrate his legacy.
