As the numbers of motorcycles have increased on the streets of Nepal, the demands of auto parts, stickers and number plates have increased rapidly as well. And with change of time youngsters today are interested in modern bikes and scooters. The modification of bikes is in high demand today to make their two wheelers look fashionable.
Milan Marg, Teku is one of the busiest marketplaces in Kathmandu where motorbike auto parts and service centers are located, with hundreds of clients flocking to get number plates and customize their two-wheelers. Around 50 stores are located in the same location, selling wholesale auto parts, helmets, retailing tires and other accessories.
Rajesh Karki, the owner of Radha Krishna Auto parts in Teku, became an auto parts supplier at a young age. He's been in the business for about 15 years now. "Comparing to the situation today, there weren't many customers when I first started as there were fewer since everyone could not afford bikes," Karki explains. "The bikes that used to come in Nepal were simple and they were interested in modifying their bikes like they are today," he adds.
Suraj Basnet, an employee of Rupak Sticker House, says, "I've been doing this for almost 7 years. I love doing what I do as the earning is well and the work experiences I've gained over the years are quite valuable." Starting with a little knowledge on auto parts and two wheelers, Basnet now dreams of opening his own auto parts and sticker shops.
Just like all the businesses around the world, Teku also faced a high downfall due to COVID-19 pandemic. The sales was not good and the number of customers was also low. Once the lockdown was lifted, the whole nation faced a surge on tax prices, leading the shopkeepers to face another downfall. However, things are finally coming back to normal, and the sales every day is as good as ever.
