The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to install modern street lamps in view of the upcoming Bada Dashain festival.
In this connection, the KMC is making preparation to install 1,700 modern street lamps along its main streets at an investment of around Rs 300 million.
KMC Infrastructure Development Department chief Ram Thapa said the company for installing the lamps has been selected through the bidding process. "Works for installing the street lamps would be started in few days from now. Works have been forwarded targeting the coming Dashain festival," he said.
Thapa added that they were working to make the 'Bright Kathmandu Metropolis Campaign' successful.
According to him, the Department of Roads will carry out the repair and maintenance works of the streets and the footpath once the works under the street lamp installation project are over.
Initially, the installation of the street lamps would be done at the International Airport, Tinkune, Baneshwor and Kalanki area.
Similarly, modern street lamps would be installed from Tripureshwor up to Maharajgunj via Lainchaur.
KMC is preparing to install lamps in other main streets, including Gaushala, Chabahil and Bouddha.
It is believed that installation of lamps in the main streets would help in the prevention and control of various criminal activities taking place at night as well as road accidents.
