The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested 15 people involved in vandalism and theft of Lotse mall, burning of police vehicles, and police post at New Bus Park on Monday, in the name of the labour movement and made it public today.
Those arrested are 19-year-old Suraj Magar of Kavre, 30-year-old Ritesh Basnet of Udaipur, 30-year-old Yaman Rai of Morang, 18-year-old Sunil Kalikote of Nuwakot, 22-year-old Roman Nagarkoti, 18-year-old Sudeep Tamang, 33-year-old Madhav Shahi and 19-year-old Keshar Rai.
18-year-old Indra Tamang from Sindhuli, 26-year-old Elaraj Gurung from Dhading, 27-year-old Rajan Raut from Udaipur, 28-year-old Harisharan Tamang from Kavre, 18-year-old Vikash Gurung from Dhading, 27-year-old Constituent Pariyar from Chitwan and 19-year-old Kavin Khadgi from Kathmandu.
Spokesperson of the office and Superintendent of Police Somendrasingh Rathore informed that students, drivers and co-drivers were among the perpetrators of arson and vandalism. Last Monday, transport workers staged a protest saying that their demands should be met.
After the agitation became violent, the protestors burnt two vehicles and a temporary police block of Police Circle Balaju, vandalised Lotse Mall located at New Bus Park and looted mobile phones. Spokesman Rathore said that the arrestees are being investigated for theft and robbery. Earlier only on Wednesday, the police had arrested 10 people and made it public.
