Bird flu has been detected in the poultry reared by farmers in Nakkhu of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-14 in Lalitpur district.
According to the Information Officer at the Department of Livestock Services Dr Chandra Dhakal, the infection was detected in the hen, ducks and quail when the real-time PCR method was used at the Central Veterinary Disease Investigation Laboratory at Tripureshwor, Kathmandu on last Friday.
This is the sixth time the bird flu was reported in Nepal this fiscal year. Earlier, it was detected in Surkhet, Jajarkot and Tarkeshwor of Kathmandu.
The trained team from the related agencies has been mobilized to disinfect the areas to contain the further spread of the bird flu, informed Dr Dhakal.
The team culled 516 ducks, 854 hens, 154 quails, 944 eggs and 335 kg chicken feed in Nakkhu where the bird flu was detected, shared Dr Dhakal.
