The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebrias, has paid a courtesy call on President Bidhyadevi Bhandari.
A meeting was held between them at the Presidential Residence, Sheetal Niwas, this morning, said Tika Dhakal, Press Advisor to President Bhandari.
According to her, during the meeting, President Bhandari thanked WHO Director General Dr. Tedros for distributing the vaccine to all countries equally during the coronavirus epidemic.
Director General Dr. Tedros expressed his gratitude to Nepal for vaccinating many people against the coronavirus. On the occasion, Director General Dr. Tedros briefed President Bhandari on Nepal's contribution to the health sector. Director General Dr. Tedros was also interested in Nepal's health policy.
He also informed President Bhandari about the assistance to be provided to WHO Nepal, Dhakal said.
Dr. Tedros, who arrived in Nepal on Thursday for a three-day visit at the invitation of Health and Population Minister Virodh Khatiwada, also met National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsena, Health and Population Minister Virodh Khatiwada and Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka.
The Director General is accompanied by Dr. Poonam Khetrapal, Regional Director, WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office, and other WHO officials. He is scheduled to return from Nepal on April 23.
