Police in Bhaktapur on Sunday arrested five persons allegedly involved in thrashing and killing a youth.
The deceased has been identified as Krishna Gurung (30).
Police identified the arrestees as Tek Bahadur KC (50) and Nabin Koju (32) of Changunarayan Municipality-2; Binod Lakha (37) of Bhaktapur Municipality-7; Kamal Khatri Phunyal (38) of Bhimeshwar Municipality-9 currently living in Changunarayan-2, and Sanis Kumar Raya (34) of Barju Rural Municipality-3 in Sunsari, currently living in Changunarayan-3.
Acting on the information that a man was caught stealing a water pump motor at Barkhepati, Changunarayan-2, a team of security personnel deployed from Bhaktapur-based Metropolitan Police Sector reached the site and found Gurung critically injured. Subsequently, police rushed the injured youth to Bhaktapur Hospital and rounded up the persons involved in thrashing the youth. The injured youth died during the course of treatment at the hospital, police informed.
Meanwhile, investigation into the incident is underway, according to Bhaktapur -based Metropolitan Police Range.
