Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has directed the administration and security agencies to immediately manage treatment, and launch rescue and relief efforts for those affected by flooding and landslides at various places in the Darchula district.
Stating that the government is committed to saving people's lives, he also directed the use of helicopters as per the need for the efforts.
After the direction of the Home Minister, a helicopter of the Nepal Army deployed from Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province, reached the incident sites and rescued those injured in the monsoon-caused disasters, said the Ministry's spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel.
Flooding and landslides took a toll at various places of Mahakali Municipality and Naugadh Rural Municipality in Darchula district, killing at least five people and injuring eight others, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohan Acharya, Chief of the Nepal Police, Sudurpaschim Province. Similarly, seven others are still missing, he said.
In the disasters, at least 15 houses and the building of Dasharathnagar Basic School were destroyed at Lasku and Bangabagad. The motorway and a suspension bridge over the local Lasku River linking Duhun and Mahakali were also swept away by the flooded river.
Five parked jeeps and tractors were washed away.
Rescue teams of the Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, and local people have been at work, said the police.
