The Lalitpur Metropolitan City itself is going to install the 'Intelligent Traffic Control System' at the main intersections of Kathmandu. After the Department of Roads delayed the connection, the Lalitpur Metropolitan City itself is about to install such a system in its six main intersections.
The then Kathmandu Sustainable Urban Transport Project had called for tenders three times so far to connect the lights. However, all tenders were canceled after the government's cost estimate was exceeded.
Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said that the road department is installing traffic lights in collaboration with the Metropolitan Traffic Police with the objective of managing traffic jams.
He said that such light systems are being installed at Kupandol, Harihar Bhawan Chowk, Jamsikhel Jaane Chowk, Dhobighat Chowk, Jaulakhel and Lagankhel in Lalitpur.
