Kathmandu is in the top 10 list of the world's most polluted cities. According to IQ Air, on the basis of air quality measurement, Kathmandu was the sixth most polluted city in the world on Tuesday.
The atmosphere in Kathmandu Valley has not been clean for some days now. Due to the pollution some may experience pain, itching and burning of the nose and eyes. Last year, the government had to take a decision to close schools for four days after the pollution increased.
According to Pollution.gov.np, the atmosphere in the Kirtipur area is the most polluted. The Government of Nepal has also made provision for air pollution emergency in the Air Quality Management Action Plan for Kathmandu Valley. The action plan passed by the cabinet meeting clearly states that disaster will be declared after exceeding 300 AQI. At present, the AQI of Kathmandu is around 160.
