The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Office has announced a budget of more than Rs 18.95 billion for the next fiscal year 2078/79. The budget was announced by Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi during the ninth municipal session of the metropolitan.
The budget has allocated over Rs 3.75 billion for administration expenses and for the operation of offices under the jurisdiction of KMC. Likewise, Rs 550 million has been separated for economic development purposes. The budget has also allotted Rs 2.70 billion for social development work.
Meanwhile, Rs 10.80 billion has been allotted for the development of physical infrastructure. Similarly, the budget has allocated Rs 1.15 billion for good governance purposes.
While announcing the budget, Deputy Mayor Khadgi mentioned that the budget has given priority to minimise the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also said the budget had tried to incorporate the suggestions that were provided by the residents of the city and also added that the budget had tried to include experiences gathered during the implementation of the current budget.
The KMC has also separated budget to provide 50 per cent of the insurance premium for valley residents for the health insurance scheme introduced by the government. The budget has also allocated funds for the establishment of a 100-bed Metropolitan Special Hospital with special treatment services for senior citizens.
