Kathmandu Valley folks would get drinking water of Melamchi Drinking Water Project, which was obstructed after flood, landslide damaged the project, within next four days.
Water is being channeled to Kathmandu again from Wednesday evening after repair and maintenance. Senior Divisional Engineer at the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, Padam Bahadur Kunwar, told RSS that water has been diverted to Kathmandu from Wednesday evening as per the agreement between the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee and the construction company on December 19 to send the water in Kathmandu Valley within 28 days.
He shared, "The Melamchi water will reach Sundarijal-based water treatment plant within four days as half of the 27-kilometer tunnel is already filled with water."
According to the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, preparations were underway to distribute Melamchi water to Kathmandu Valley folks from January 15. Around 170 million litres of drinking water is supplied to Kathmandu every day, mentioned project Director of Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, Zakki Ahmad Ansari.
