Locals in Budhanilkantha have launched a protest citing that the government had failed to build the road even after eight years of it pledging to do so. Residents of Budhanilkantha-12 have started the protest stating that the government had dug up the road that had been built initially through the contributions of the locals but had failed to rebuild it even after eight years.
Chairperson of the ward, Sambhu Bhattarai, along with the locals today padlocked the office of the Department of Roads citing that the administration had not bothered to repair the Tenzing Chowk-Kharibot section of the road. The police had later broken the lock and opened the office after which the locals started demonstrating. The police have arrested Bhattarai along with some other locals of the concerned ward.
DSP Daksha Kumar Basnet of the Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor, said that the ward chairperson along with the others was released after holding them for some time. Bhattarai along with 15 other people who had been arrested were kept at the Tinkune Police Office.
Bhattarai mentioned they had no option other than to launch a protest because the road for which the tender had been issued about eight years back had still not been constructed. He added that what was worse was that the road had been previously built through the contributions of the local residents.
