Police have arrested a man on charge of swindling money from people aspiring to go abroad from Budhanilkantha on Tuesday.
The arrested has been identified as Umesh Regmi, a local resident of Triyuga Municipality-7 in Udayapur district.
Regmi allegedly lied to three people aspiring to go abroad that he would send them to Italy. One of the aspirants has been identified as Saugat Sunuwar (23), a local resident of Umakunda Rural Municipality in Ramechhap district while the names of the other two have not been disclosed.
Regmi allegedly swindled Rs 3.15 million out of them. He took them to Azerbaijan and fled, leaving them stranded in the country.
Security personnel deployed from the Lalitpur-based Tikathali Metropolitan Crime Branch (MCB) nabbed Regmi.
As per the investigation led by police, Regmi had swindled more than Rs 10 million from many people by making false promises to send them to European countries on working visas.
Regmi has been sent to Metropolitan Police Circle for necessary action, informed MCB.
