The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has taken action against a medical supplier for selling face masks at an inflated price. The department informed that All Final Surgical Suppliers located in Tripureshwor had been levied with a fine for selling masks at a higher rate.
According to Shivaraj Sedhain, spokesperson of the department, during market monitoring today the concerned medical supplier had been found to be selling masks at double the normal price. He informed that the department had levied a fine of Rs 2 lakh as the supplier had been selling face masks which cost Rs 4.46 a price at Rs 8.38.
The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has expedited market monitoring activities as there are high chances of market irregularities during the current prohibitory order.
Meanwhile, the department on Thursday had also levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on Himalayan Health Care of Bhaktapur, which is involved in producing masks. The department had visited the company after it received a complaint that Himalayan Health Care had been supplying masks in the market without determining the retail price of the masks.
